    Visualizing the Census of Marine Life

The Census of Marine Life was a global network of researchers in more than 80 nations engaged in a 10-year scientific initiative to assess and explain the diversity, distribution, and abundance of life in the oceans.  The world's first comprehensive census of the past, present, and future of life in the oceans was released in October 2010.

 

Preparation

Please bring your laptop with you to the workshop. You can hook your laptop to the network via WiFi or a cable.

You will be able to access any web pages including gmail or other web-based email services.

We will intensively use ESRI ArcGIS and less intensively R. It would be ideal if you got ArcGIS and R installed on your laptop.
Please make sure your ArcGIS license is valid (works fine in a remote location).

If you don't have them installed, no worries. You can connect to one of our computational servers.

Self-introductory Presentation

10minutes, 4-5 slides each

Some ideas for the slides are:

  1. Your current research interests/themes
  2. What you want to learn from the workshop (NaGISA folks) or what is your role in the workshop (Duke folks)
  3. Products/analyses you will conduct after the workshop (NaGISA)
  4. Your skill levels in ArcGIS/R/Programming
  5. Future collaboration between NaGISA and M&V
