The Census of Marine Life was a global network of researchers in more than 80 nations engaged in a 10-year scientific initiative to assess and explain the diversity, distribution, and abundance of life in the oceans.  The world's first comprehensive census of the past, present, and future of life in the oceans was released in October 2010.

Global data on human impacts to marine ecosystems

Global Map of Human Impacts to Marine Ecosystems
The goal of the research presented here is to estimate and visualize, for the first time, the global impact humans are having on the ocean's ecosystems. The full impact model, source impact layers, and ecosystem extents can all be downloaded in a variety of formats.

Use Example

Download an compressed ESRI Grid file and visualize in ArcGIS

Extraction may require the opensource 7-zip application to extract - see http://www.7-zip.org/

Extraction will create a grid folder with several subfolders (~3 GB).  These folders must all be kept together.

In ArcGIS navigate to the new grid folder and add the "model" raster within.
